Another case where a wife catches husband cheating! Melody Duncan, the wife of South Carolina Republican Rep. Jeff Duncan, has started the divorce process because she says her husband had at least one affair while they were married.
Melody Duncan, who has three adult children with the congressman, filed for divorce in Laurens County on Friday. In it, she says that her husband has had multiple relationships with other women and has left their home to live with another woman.
Duncan, known for championing "pro-life" and traditional family values on his online profiles, has been married to Melody since December 1988.
Duncan's divorce papers, which were turned in around noon on Friday, name his girlfriend as Liz Williams, who is said to be a lobbyist from the Washington, D.C., area.
According to the complaint, Duncan "recently left the marriage and has admitted to [Melody] that he has an ongoing sexual relationship" with Williams. The complaint further reveals that Duncan has confessed to this "adulterous relationship" to various individuals, including their sons and members of his staff.
The complaint, which was published by South Carolina's Index Journal on Friday night, also talks about an event Duncan hosted on August 28 called the "Faith and Freedom BBQ." It was a conservative fundraiser where Duncan publicly praised Melody as a loving and supportive wife.
"Upon information and belief, [Duncan] then left the next day and went directly to the home of his paramour, Liz Williams, in the Washington D.C. area, where [Melody] is informed and believes he continues to reside," the complaint stated. "[Melody] is informed and believes that [Duncan's] extramarital relationship(s) is/are widely known in political circles of South Carolina and Washington D.C."
The complaint further alleges that Duncan is suspected of being involved in "an extramarital relationship with at least one other woman" during their marriage. It asserts that Duncan has tried to portray his marriage to Melody as loveless to justify the inconsistency between his public statements and private actions.
In her complaint, Melody Duncan has requested the court to grant permanent and periodic alimony, exclusive possession of their marital residence and their property in Montana, assign Duncan sole responsibility for outstanding debts and obligations, provide health insurance for herself and their children, cover both of their uncovered medical expenses, and handle attorney's costs and fees, among other requests.
As of now, neither of Melody Duncan's legal representatives has responded to inquiries from Fox News Digital regarding the filing.
Similarly, Duncan's office has not yet provided a response to Fox News Digital's request for comment.
Duncan, representative for South Carolina's 3rd Congressional District, currently chairs the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Energy, Climate, and Grid Security. He is up for re-election in 2024.
"Professionals agree: cheating is a clear sign that a marriage is failing. Well, that's a pretty popular idea. Cheating is always a deeper problem, that both people is part of," notes Wilda Harrison.
