To answer a video that asked women in healthy relationships to talk about their experiences, Erica said that her boyfriend told her to quit her job when he found out she was having problems at work. Soon after that, he hired movers to pack up her things and sent her to Dallas, where he was successful. Knowing she could easily find a job and a place to live if she needed to, Erica felt safe in her choice because she had saved money and earned two degrees.
Her boyfriend offered to pay for her trip as long as she found the right path in life. He helped her by buying vlogging gear when she told him she wanted to be a full-time content creator.
Despite the online support, there were negative comments, mostly from Black men, attacking her financially secure lifestyle. Erica responded in another video, questioning why a Black woman living luxuriously triggers such reactions. She addressed comments calling her "lazy" and a "gold digger," pushing those who disagree to think about their own finances. She said that Black women shouldn't have to go through a lot to get attention, which was different from how white women on the platform who shared similar lifestyles were treated.

Over 2.5 million people watched her response video, and many Black women online loved it. At the end, Erica said that she wished all women could feel the same love and support that her Black man gives her.
"Someone could see Erica's situation as supporting traditional gender roles, where men are expected to be the providers. I know this may not be popular. Her story speaks to many, being financially dependent can hurt your sense of autonomy and self-esteem, no matter what race or gender you are," says Wilda Harrison, a relationship psychologist.
