Taylor, in court documents obtained by TMZ, has accused Shumpert of being a jealous emotional abuser, grappling with insecurity in the face of her rising fame. Despite his successful NBA career and lucrative contracts, Taylor alleges Shumpert harbored resentment and displayed jealousy at public events where her solo photos were requested.
Even though she tried to downplay her success for the sake of their relationship, the singer says Shumpert sent her "condescending and manipulative" messages about her work. Shumpert's behavior during the end of his basketball career is also being blamed.
The court papers show that they abused each other emotionally and mentally, were controlling, and cheated on each other many times while they were married. Taylor says she lived in "extremely" abusive place, but she tried to save the relationship.
As part of the divorce proceedings, Taylor seeks full custody of their two children, citing Shumpert's inconsistent involvement since leaving their family home in October. The leaks give us a look into how complicated their relationship is, with all the fame, career changes, and trust issues.
A few months earlier, Taylor made a post on Instagram, where she said that they were splitting up, putting an end to rumors that she was cheating on him. She stated that they would stay friends, be good co-parents, and do well as business partners.
As to relationship psychologist Wilda Harrison: "People should not jump to conclusions about emotional abuse just because Teyana Taylor says it happened. We need to understand both sides before coming to a decision. In these situations, personal insecurities, fame pressures, and relationship dynamics often interact in complex ways that need to be carefully examined before being judged right away."
